Installed to mark the inauguration of Wolverhampton’s School or Art and Design, Dalwood’s sculpture was selected from a shortlist of three, alongside proposals by Kenneth Martin and Philip King. Staff and students at the art school who were consulted as part of the decision-making process strongly favoured Dalwood’s piece. The work was originally unpainted, but at some point was given a coat of cream paint.
